Initially graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, Surya Graf then went on to study Architecture at the University of Queensland. His interest in the built environment then began to incorporate the smaller scale of objects and product design. In 2002 he graduated as the university medallist in Product Design from Griffith University (QCA). Surya has since been working for various clients with the main focus on furniture design within the urban environment. He has designed products for major projects throughout Australia and internationally, being nominated for numerous design awards. Surya is continually developing interior furniture pieces, lighting and home ware products through his own studio practice, while also collaborating on events and exhibitions. His design has a major influence from new technologies combined with an innovative and experimental use of existing materials and processes. While always being focused on functionality, his design philosophy is also based on a refined simplicity of form and issues of environmental sustainability.
