Krios

Nardo Vetro, an historical company from Northeastern Italy specialized in glass manufacturing, enters to the design world with the Krios brand. Krios reflects the values and characteristics of cultural and technological renovation which have always distinguished Nardo Vetro’s production and which have enabled it to be competitive in the market. This is demonstrated by the acquisition of the latest machinery and tools available, by the continuous updating of manufacturing techniques and by the assiduous research for and use of new materials all while respecting environmental regulations. The know-how acquired over time and the guarantee of the NardoVetro name, synonym of quality and professionalism to suppliers and producers, have encouraged the company to challenge itself with this new brand. Kate Malone

" I aim to be at the same time both very serious and quite silly, simple and clever, adult and child. My aim to broadcast a sense of optimism through my work, to touch the emotions..the pleasure buttons of the spirit, and chase an instinctive use of positive symbolism. I work in three areas; large scale public projects, one of a kind ceramics and playful smaller pieces. My main studio and large kiln is in London. I also work from smaller satellite studios in Provence and Barcelona. Wherever I am I can be contacted using my email address kmaloneceramics@clara.co.uk I am motivated by a fascination with clay and with nature. Transforming soft wet clay to fired hard ceramic, then to a shiny glazed surface is addictive. These two fascinations are combined in a book recording 20 years of my work many photos, descriptions and in depth technical notes - look for "Kate Malone, A Book of Pots" written by myself and Lesley Jackson, published by A and C Black in the UK and Overlook Press in USA."-Kate Malone

Kirsten Coelho

Kirsten Coelho works in Porcelain, producing reduction fired works that attempt to fuse subtle abstracted glaze surfaces with simple reductive forms.
Kirsten Coelho trained in Adelaide, South Australia before moving to the UK in the early 1990’s where she worked for a number of years in a London Studio. While in London Kirsten Coelho’s style developed influenced by the British Studio pottery tradition which has some of its origins in the theories of the potter Bernard Leach. More recently Kirsten Coelho work has been influenced by nineteenth and early twentieth century enamel wares and the abstracted surface possibilities these objects can possess when they begin to age. Since returning to Australia in 1998, Kirsten Coelho has been a studio tenant at the JamFactory Centre for Contemporary Craft and Design, completed a Master of Visual Art and currently lectures in Ceramics at the University of South Australia. Kirsten Coelho now works from a studio at her home in Ethelton, South Australia.

Ken Eastman

‘Part of the reason for making (in fact a very large part of the reason) is to see things that I have never seen before- to build something that I can not fully understand or explain.’

Born 1960 in Hertfordshire, UK, Ken Eastman studied at Edinburgh College of Art (1979-83) and at the Royal College of Art, London (1984-87). He exhibits widely internationally and has won many prestigious awards in the field of the ceramic arts, including the ‘Premio Faenza’, Italy in 1995, the ‘Gold Medal’ at the World Ceramic Exposition 2001 Korea and the ‘President De la Generalitat Valencia’at the 5 th Biennale International De Ceramica, Manises, Spain. In 1998-99 he was awarded the Arts Foundation Fellowship in Ceramics. His work is held in numerous public collections including The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Japan; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, USA; Musee des Arts Decoratifs de Montreal, Canada; Shepparton Art Gallery, Victoria, Australia; Museum Boijmans van Beunigen, Rotterdam; Landesmuseum, Stuttgart; Museu de Ceramica de Manises, Valencia and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. The core of his work centres around the idea of the vessel. He has never made functional work, but rather uses the vessel as a subject- to give meaning and form to an expression. Working through the medium of ceramics, Eastman can be both builder and painter; can handle shape and structure, as well as exploring tone and colour. Alison Britton has written of his work: - “Not being at all bothered about function, Eastman’s work with the pot form has been a consistent route into increasing abstraction, playing both with form and surface. That is what is potentially special about ceramics- you can have body and dress, sculpture and painting, essentially connected. Painting has always been a strong card for Eastman; he can be lyrical on the sheer walls of his objects. The gestures that are made with the brush are fluid and sensual, the colours rich and quiet.” In addition to his studio work, Ken Eastman has lectured and taught in many colleges and universities throughout the UK and is currently Academic Research Lecturer at Glasgow School of Art, Scotland. ‘Ken Eastman, Behind the Gates of Clay’, a monograph about the development of the artist’s work was published in 2004 by the Barrett-Marsden Gallery, London. With an analytical essay by Jane McCabe, the book explores recurrent themes in Eastman’s work and the artist’s approach to making ceramics. Eastman was elected as a member of the International Academy of Ceramics in 2003

KiBiSi

KiBiSi

Founded by Kilo Design / Lars Holme Larsen, BIG / Bjarke Ingels and Skibsted Ideation / Jens Martin Skibsted, KiBiSi is a Copenhagen based idea-driven industrial design firm. Each partner contributes with intelligence and experience from within his specific field providing KiBiSi with cutting edge knowledge and knowhow within the fields of architecture, design, furniture, electronics, transportation, contemporary culture and lifestyle. Having collaborated on multiple projects for years Lars, Bjarke and Jens Martin decided to turn their intuitive inclination to work together into a full time collaboration.

Ki

Kilo Design by Lars Holme Larsen is known as an industrial design studio rooted in a straight forward approach to design merging elements of contemporary culture from high and low: the art scene as well as the street, the fashion house as well as the workshop. Lars Holme Larsen’s natural eye for blatant and simple solutions to complex design problems, has earned him instant acclaim as one of Danish designs fastest rising stars.

Bi

BIG architects founded by Bjarke Ingels has become one of the leading firms of a new generation of architects, repeatedly attracting public attention and triggering political debate with thought provoking designs. Often moving beyond the traditional boundaries of building BIG’s ideas absorb all the economical, ecological, social and political interests surrounding a project and turn them into back bending forms that are as surprising as they are obvious.

Si

Skibsted Ideation, founded by Biomega creator Jens Martin Skibsted, is a prolific generator of radically new concepts for brand owners: Applying the thinking of branding, fashion and cuisine to the world of industrial design. Young Global Leader and member of "Davos'" design think tank, collected by MoMA and frequent collaborator with the world’s biggest brands and best designers, Jens Martin Skibsted is a hyper active citizen of the global design elite.

Ki + Bi + Si = KiBiSi

KiBiSi merges the faculties of its founders into a symbiotic hybrid of design, architecture and ideation: The production know-how and design sensibility of Kilo Design – the big ideas and large scale perspective of BIG architects - and the idea driven innovation and brand awareness of Skibsted Ideation.

Ideas and products are intrinsically tied. We believe the product should be the carrier of its brand idea rather than some designer's form and formula. In the fertile overlap between Design, Architecture and Ideation KiBiSi seeks to spawn a new breed of idea driven design.
