Antonio Citterio was born in Meda in 1950.
He graduated in architecture from Milan Polytechnic and opened his studio in 1972 mainly focusing on industrial design.
In 1999 "Antonio Citterio and Partners" was founded by Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel, a multidisciplinary studio for architectural design, industrial design and graphics.
The studio develops projects for residential complexes and trade centres, industrial sites, restructuring of public buildings, planning of workspace, offices, showrooms and hotels; it is also operational in the field of corporate communication and implements corporate image projects, fittings and graphics.
Antonio Citterio works now for Italian and foreign companies such as Ansorg, Arclinea, Axor - Hansgrohe, Aubrilam, B&B Italia, Flexform, Flos, Fusital, Guzzini, Iittala, Inda, Kartell, Maxalto, Sanitec Group - Pozzi Ginori, Simon Urmet, Technogym, Tre Più, Vitra.
One of the acknowledgements obtained was the Compasso d'Oro in 1987 and 1995.
The products "Mobil" and "Battista" designed for Kartell are exhibited in the design permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. "Mobil", "Battista", "Dolly", "Gastone" and "Oxo" are exhibited in the permanent collection of the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The cutlery collection ‘Tools Citterio 2000', designed for Iittala, is part of the permanent collection of design at the Museum of Architecture and Design in Chicago together with the "Axor Citterio" taps designed for Hansgrohe.
In the year 2004 the Italian publishing company Electa launched the monography "Antonio Citterio Industrial design" distributed in the English version by Phaidon Press and in 2005, written by Luigi Prestinenza Pugliesi and published by Edilstampa, the monography "Antonio Citterio".
From 2006, Antonio Citterio is professor at the Accademia di Architettura dell'Università della Svizzera Italiana.
In January 2007 the project for the GlaxoSmithKline day nursery in Verona has been selected by the Mies van der Rohe Award jury and together with other 32 projects will be part of the catalogue and exhibition.
In 2007 he received the "Royal Designer for Industry" award from the "Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce" in London.
