JAMES SLADE, AIA
James Slade has had his own practice since 1997. He was a founding partnerof Cho Slade Architecture in 1997 and founded Slade Architecture in 2002. In
that time, he has been responsible for a wide variety of projects of many scales
and types. His projects have been built in the United States, England, Korea and
China.
His work is characterized by innovation, creativity and quality and has been
recognized internationally with awards, exhibitions and over 150 publications. His
work has been recognized with awards that include two Progressive Architecture
Awards, AIA Awards, Interior Design Best of the Year awards, Architecture
Magazine’s Design Vanguard and the Architecture League’s Young Architect
Award. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the National
Building Museum, Deutsches Architekturmuseum, the Swiss Institute, the
Architecture League of New York, the Center for Architecture, the Venice
Biennale and other national and international venues.
In addition to his work at Slade Architecture, James has taught design studios at
Columbia/Barnard, Pratt Institute, Florida International University, and
Philadelphia University.
Prior to establishing his own firm, James worked as an architect at Gluckman
Maynor Architects, Polshek and Partners, Rick Mather Architects and
Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. His projects during that time include the Queens
Borough Library (in Queens, New York), dormitories at the University of East
Anglia (England), Dormitories at Oxford University (England), the Mashantucket Pequot
Museum (in Ledyard, Connecticut), and the Mary Boone Gallery (in New York, NY).
