Although Overland Partners was founded in 1987, the idea of Overland began taking shape a decade before. Four close friends (Rick Archer, Tim Blonkvist, Robert Schmidt and Madison Smith) from the University of Texas at Austin, dreamed of one day opening their own firm. However, life took them in different directions after graduation. They each traveled the world in their separate endeavors, studying and working in places like Copenhagen, Zurich, New York, Washington, D.C. and Dallas; all the while keeping in touch. Finally, in 1987 they were able to bring their dream to life. Over the years, the firm has grown from four friends working on small remodeling projects to over 60 professionals working on significant public buildings throughout the United States and several other countries. More importantly, Overland has become a group of passionate individuals working together to influence the world through their architecture.
